Sect Rules

RuleWhat It Means
Earn Fun Points weeklyTease NPCs, pull pranks, use disguises to trick people. Creativity counts.
Participate in Disguise EventsSect-hosted events where you impersonate NPCs and run cons on unsuspecting players.

Mortal Rope Dart: Core Mechanics

The Rope Dart is a hybrid weapon β€” melee slashes at close range, grappling-hook pulls at mid-range, and a unique summoning mechanic that sets it apart from every other weapon in the game.

The Pull Mechanic

Your most defining tool. The Rope Dart can hook and pull enemies toward you, or pull yourself toward enemies. This is what makes you the best engage tool in group PvP and invaluable for controlling spread-out mob packs.

ActionEffect
Hook an enemyPull them into melee range β†’ immediate combo follow-up
Hook terrainGap-close across the battlefield
Hook a downed allyPull them to safety for revive

Rat Summons

Unique to Mortal Rope Dart: certain skills summon rodent allies that fight alongside you:

Rat TypeEffect
Scout RatReveals nearby enemies, lootable objects, and trap locations
Combat RatAttacks your target, applies Poison DoT
Bomb RatCharges at enemy and explodes for AoE Fire damage

Rats scale with your Affinity stat. At high Affinity, a fully summoned rat swarm can contribute 10-15% of your total DPS.

FAQ

Q: Is Nine Mortal Ways good for solo players? A: Yes β€” but for a different reason than Well of Heaven. You won't face-tank bosses, but your rats give you a personal army, and the disguise system lets you bypass a lot of open-world combat entirely.

Q: Do I really lose 10 Virtue every time a con fails? A: Yes. But "failure" means getting caught and jailed. Most cons are low-risk if you're patient. The key is knowing when to walk away.

Q: What's the hardest thing about Mortal Rope Dart? A: Pull accuracy. If you miss Serpent's Grasp in PvP, you're useless for the next 12 seconds. Practice in Perception Forest until your hit rate is above 80%.

Q: Can I skip the social/disguise stuff and just fight? A: You can, but you're missing half the sect's value. At minimum, learn the disguise mechanics β€” Sneak Thief's +50% damage opener is a huge combat buff.

Q: How does the Double Rat build compare to pure Infernal Twinblades (Midnight Blades)? A: Double Rat has lower personal DPS but adds the Soul Break raid buff (+5% party damage). In solo play, Midnight Blades wins. In group content, Double Rat is better.

Q: What happens if I fail too many cons and my Virtue tanks? A: Bounty hunters spawn in the open world. If they catch you, you go to jail (lose time + more Virtue). At very low Virtue, NPC vendors charge you more. You can recover Virtue by doing good deeds, but it's slow. Don't let it spiral.

Q: Is the Unfettered Rope Dart worth the grind? A: Yes β€” Unfettered Rope Dart (Bamboocut – Dust) is the AoE Control variant. Wider pulls, longer stuns, and it can hook multiple enemies at once. Essential for high-level Perception Forest.
