π― Advanced Combat Mechanics β
Master these techniques to go from button-mashing to dominating every fight.
The Combat Triangle β
Block > Light Attacks > Grab > Block
β β
ββββββββββββββββββββββββββ| Action | Beats | Loses To |
|---|---|---|
| Block | Light attacks, projectiles | Grabs, unblockables |
| Light Attack | Grab attempts, idle enemies | Blocks |
| Grab/Heavy | Blocking enemies | Light attacks (interrupted) |
Perfect Dodge β
Timing a dodge just before an attack lands:
| Reward | Effect |
|---|---|
| Breath Hold | Slow-motion window for counter-attack |
| Cooldown Reset | Resets Addled Mind (Twinblades) and similar skills |
| Stamina Efficient | Costs less than panic-dodging |
Practice drill: Stand in front of a low-level enemy. Only attack after Perfect Dodge. Do this for 10 minutes until it's muscle memory.
Block Countering (Divine Counter) β
For charged-attack weapons (Thundercry Blade, Spears):
Block enemy attack β Free instant Stage 3 charge β PunishThis is your highest DPS move on tank/bruiser builds. Blocks also generate Fighting Spirit.
When to block vs. dodge: Block physical attacks. Dodge unblockables (red glow), grabs, and AoE explosions.
Animation Cancelling β
Shortening recovery frames to chain actions faster:
| Cancel Type | How | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| Block Cancel | Tap block mid-swing β immediately act again | Shorten Varied Combo recovery |
| Parry Cancel | Star Shift Mystic Art β cancel into another skill | Weapon swap safety |
| Dodge Cancel | Dodge out of recovery frames | Fast weapons, repositioning |
Practice drill: Light attack β Block Cancel β Light attack. Repeat until smooth. Then add skills.
Qi Break & Exhausted Windows β
- Qi (θθ²ζ‘) is the enemy's shield bar
- Break it β enemy enters Exhausted state:
- Cannot act for several seconds
- Takes bonus damage from all sources
- Vulnerable to grabs and heavy attacks
How to break Qi faster:
- Heavy charged attacks
- Specific Mystic Arts (Talon Strike, Yaksha Rush)
- Stormbreaker Spear β Thunder Shock (applies Vulnerable)
Boss rotation rule: Save burst cooldowns for Exhausted windows. Don't waste them on shielded bosses.
Weapon Swap Combos β
Your two weapons share resources and can chain:
Example: Tank Combo β
Thundercry Blade: Shield up β Block counter β Stage 3 Avalanche
β Conversion (weapon swap)
β Stormbreaker Spear: Thunder Shock (Vulnerable) β Storm Roar (taunt)
β Conversion (swap back)
β Thundercry Blade: Predator's Shield β repeatExample: PvP Combo β
Infernal Twinblades: Addled Mind (gap close) β Calamity's Greed
β Build Karmic Flame β Flamelash (Wrathful Form)
β Light Attack spam with CC immunity
β Nameless Sword: Shadow Step (chase/retreat)Positioning Fundamentals β
| Range | Stay Here If... |
|---|---|
| Melee (0-3m) | You're a tank or melee DPS. Stick to the boss's back/flank. |
| Mid (3-8m) | You're a healer. Close enough to heal, far enough to dodge. |
| Far (8m+) | You're ranged DPS. Kite and maintain distance. |
Universal rule: Never stand in front of the boss unless you're the tank.
CC & Immunity Chain β
| CC Type | Counter |
|---|---|
| Stun | Serene Breeze (break out) |
| Knockdown | Golden Body (Fortitude = immune) |
| Grab | Dodge or Light Attack to interrupt |
| Slow | Cloud Steps (gap close anyway) |
CC immunity stacking: Golden Body + Flamelash = double Fortitude. Near-permanent CC immunity for Twinblade builds.
Quick Reference: When to Use What β
| Situation | Action |
|---|---|
| Boss winding up a big attack | Block (tank) or Perfect Dodge (DPS) |
| Boss Qi shield breaks | Dump ALL burst cooldowns |
| Enemy player spamming blocks | Grab or Talon Strike |
| Getting CC-chained in PvP | Serene Breeze β Golden Body |
| Multiple enemies surrounding you | Sunrush Gale (AoE pull) or Ghost Bind (AoE CC) |
| Ally about to die | Light Dust After Morning Rain β Resurrection |
Bottom line: Learn Perfect Dodge and Block Counter first. Everything else builds on these two skills.
