🌿 Hollow Vale: Complete Sect & Soulshade Umbrella Guide

Heal. Poison. Sustain. The game's only dedicated healer sect β€” if you want to be the reason your party never wipes, this is your home.

Why Play Hollow Vale?

ProCon
Always in demand for co-op and raidsLow solo kill speed
Unique heal+poison hybrid identityComplex Dew resource management
Passive healing via umbrella turretSquishy if caught alone
Essential for Martial Domain and GvGHigh skill ceiling β€” bad healers get blamed

How to Unlock the Soulshade Umbrella

You have two options β€” join the sect or steal the art.

  1. Reach Level 10 and access Kaifeng (complete Chapter 1)
  2. Travel to Eastern Kaifeng β†’ Mistveil Forest area
  3. Find the Hollow Vale enclave and speak to the Sect Master
  4. Complete the initiation trial β€” typically a healing challenge or escort quest
  5. Pledge allegiance β†’ Soulshade Umbrella unlocked immediately

Method 2: Skill Theft (Sectless / Multi-Weapon)

  1. Complete Chapter 1: Heaven Has No Pier to unlock Kaifeng
  2. Unlock the Touch of Death Mystic Art (from The Realm Endures side quest)
  3. Travel to Soulshade Umbrella – Post Station in eastern Kaifeng
  4. Use Touch of Death to silently eliminate guards
  5. Use Skill Theft on the Post Station master
  6. Training costs are higher than joining, and you miss sect cosmetics

πŸ’‘ Recommendation: Join the sect first to learn the weapon cheaply. You keep the martial art even after leaving. Many endgame healers join Hollow Vale, fully train Soulshade Umbrella, then switch to Silver Needle for Panacea Fan access and train both.

Weapon Pairing

SlotWeaponRole
PrimarySoulshade UmbrellaPassive healing turret, Dew generator, Exhausted debuffer
SecondaryPanacea FanDirect heals, burst healing, resurrection, Dew spender

You'll spend ~60% of combat on Fan and ~40% on Umbrella (deploy turret β†’ swap to Fan).

Dew Management β€” The Key Skill

Dew is your healing resource (max varies by build, typically ~100-150). Master this or fail:

ActionDew Change
Echoes of a Thousand Plants (Umbrella Special)+Generates over time (up to 60)
Umbrella Conversion (Tab swap)+Generates (up to 30)
Cloudburst Healing (Fan)+20 instantly
Fan Heavy Attacks+Small amounts per hit
Light Dust After Morning Rain (Fan)βˆ’50 Dew
Standing in Cloudburst zone+Passive generation

⚠️ Golden Rule: Always reserve at least 50 Dew for emergency Light Dust resurrection. A dead DPS does zero damage. A dead tank wipes the party.

Inner Arts (Inner Ways) β€” PvE

Inner ArtEffectPriority
Royal RemedyFan water clone healing +10%; standing in HoT restores 3 Dew + 2 Essence per tick⭐ Must-have
Restoring BlossomEach crit heal grants target +2% healing received (stacks to 6) AND you +2% healing dealt (stacks to 6)⭐ Must-have
Mending LoomUmbrella Special Skill restores 5 Dew + heals 10% max HP per 100 Dew consumed⭐ Core
Morale ChantAttacking or healing grants Yi River stack: +2 Physical Penetration + 1% damage/healing (stacks to 5, 12s)⬆️ Recommended

Why NOT Esoteric Revival?

Esoteric Revival (+50% healing on revived allies) looks tempting but is a trap:

  • It only triggers when someone is dying β€” if that's happening often, your healing uptime is the problem, not the revival strength.
  • Morale Chant provides consistent, always-active value instead of a conditional emergency button.
  • In well-executed runs, nobody should hit 0 HP at all.

PvP Alternatives

Inner ArtUse Case
Fury HarvestExtra Vitality for Mystic Art spam
Divine RouletteBuffs on successful deflects (dueling)
Vital LeechLifesteal from executions (Perception Forest)

Mystic Arts

Mystic ArtUse
Dragon's BreathDrink β†’ Intoxicated β†’ breath fire AoE with Ignition. Also grants 15% Damage Reduction + Fortitude. Use when party is stable.
Drunken PoetUp to 5 strikes while Intoxicated. Pairs with Dragon's Breath β€” ignite then detonate.
Flute of the TidesAoE wave damage following you for 12.5s. Good for clearing trash while umbrella heals.
Cloud StepsStomp enemy shoulder β†’ gap closer. Use against Cavalry/Unstable Poise enemies.

πŸ”‘ Only use offensive Mystic Arts when your party is healthy and umbrella is active. Your primary job is healing β€” damage is a bonus, not the goal.

Sect Rules & Daily Loop

Hollow Vale's rules reflect the life-death balance theme:

RuleRequirementTip
Cycle of RenewalHeal a certain amount of HP on other players weeklyQueue for co-op bosses β€” fast and reliable
Blight CleansingDefeat poisoned/undead enemies in the open worldFarm Mistveil Forest for easy clears
Herbal GatheringCollect herbs weekly (sect shop sells gathering tools)Do while waiting for co-op queues
Balance MaintainedDon't let your poison DoT kill-steal from sect membersAvoid AoE poison near low-HP sect allies

Compared to sects like Midnight Blades (constant PvP) or Velvet Shade (complex social systems), Hollow Vale's rules are relatively chill. Most are completed passively through normal healer gameplay.

Advanced Tips

1. Pre-cast Before Pulls

Deploy Echoes of a Thousand Plants before the tank pulls. The umbrella persists and starts healing immediately β€” you'll have Dew built up before damage even starts.

2. Umbrella Positioning

The umbrella turret heals in a radius around where you cast it. In boss fights, place it near the tank and melee DPS stack. In spread fights, place it centrally.

3. Don't Overheal

If the party is at full HP, use Fan Heavy Attacks (ranged damage) or swap to Umbrella for Pale Petal Exhausted extension. Overhealing wastes Dew.

4. Resurrection Priority

Light Dust After Morning Rain resurrects: Tank > Healer (other) > Top DPS > Everyone else. A resurrected tank at 20% HP with umbrella healing is better than a full-HP DPS with no frontliner.

5. Martial Domain Specific

Bring Flute of the Tides and Ivorybloom 4pc. On timed kill floors, deploy umbrella β†’ swap Fan β†’ contribute damage while passive healing sustains the party. On boss floors, prioritize healing uptime over your own DPS.

6. GvG (Guild vs. Guild)

You are the #1 priority target for enemy assassins. Stay with your tank at all times. Eaglerise 4pc is non-negotiable β€” Eagle Guard will save your life repeatedly.

Hybrid DPS Build (Solo / Small Group)

For solo content where pure healing is overkill, pair Soulshade Umbrella with a DPS weapon:

PairingPlaystyle
Soulshade Umbrella + Infernal TwinbladesDeploy turret β†’ swap Twinblades β†’ aggressive melee DPS with passive self-sustain
Soulshade Umbrella + Everspring UmbrellaDouble-umbrella: one heals, one controls. All-ranged, high survivability
Soulshade Umbrella + Strategic SwordTurret healing + precision dueling. Good for Perception Forest solo runs

Rotation: Cast Echoes + Floating Grace at fight start β†’ swap to DPS weapon β†’ fight normally. Umbrella sustains you in the background. Refresh when it expires.

⚠️ This is for overworld and solo instances only. In raids, GvG, and Martial Domain: play pure healer or don't play Hollow Vale.

FAQ

Q: Do I need to join Hollow Vale to be a good healer? A: Not strictly β€” you can Skill Theft the Soulshade Umbrella and stay sectless or join Silver Needle for Panacea Fan. But joining gives cheaper training, sect cosmetics, and the Everspring Umbrella (AoE control variant).

Q: Is Hollow Vale viable for solo players? A: Yes, with the hybrid DPS build. But it's slower than dedicated DPS sects. If you play 90% solo, consider Well of Heaven or Nine Mortal Ways instead.

Q: Soulshade Umbrella vs Panacea Fan β€” which is better? A: They do different things. Umbrella = passive/background healing (fire-and-forget). Fan = active/direct healing (aimed, stronger). The meta build uses both together. If you can only have one, Umbrella is more versatile.

Q: What's the hardest content for Hollow Vale healers? A: Martial Domain Hard Mode floors 15-20. Mist Effects like Thorn Armor (30% reflect) and Enrage Timer punish any healing mistakes. Bring your best gear and coordinate voice comms.

Q: When will the Hollow Vale sect questline be fully unlocked? A: The sect is currently marked as "Locked" for its full questline, but the Soulshade Umbrella weapon and core Silkbind – Deluge path are fully playable. The full story unlock is expected in a future patch.
